We Honor Veterans
Military Veterans have something special to offer. Are you one of them?
If you are a veteran or a family member of someone who served in the armed services, we want to meet you! You can be one of the caring people that Veterans, their families, and their friends come into contact with.
As a partner with We Honor Veterans through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the Hospice and Palliative Care Federation of MA (HPCFM), West River Hospice seeks to recruit veteran specific volunteers.
At West River Hospice we believe that at the end of their life, someone who has served in the military should be recognized for their service. Please help us to meet this goal by becoming a veteran-to-veteran volunteer. Hospice training will be provided.
Believe that whatever you do in service for the sick and dying, you are contributing to their comfort and happiness. You are not helpless in the face of illness and death, regardless of how much or how little you are able to do. What counts is your presence, not your activity.
As a veteran-to-veteran volunteer you might:
- offer companionship
- share special memories reminiscing about time spent in the military
- assist our staff with making sure that Veterans are treated with the respect and consideration they deserve
- be a friend, confidant, and connection to the community
- help preserve Veterans’ life stories through scrapbooking, photo preservation and life memory audio and video recordings
Whatever we do outwardly, it is our concern and respect for the Veteran that matters. Please consider joining us in service to our nation’s military service members!
If you are a veteran and can volunteer two hours or more per month companioning another veteran at the end of their life, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 781-707-9578.
